Mielke's On the Snow

Saturday the Mielke family went to Granite Peak for the day. It was kinda misty, so we weren't quite sure how the day would pan out. Nick got his first job here at Granite Peak working in the cafeteria. When he finished working, he came and joined us. I was the only one who seemed to notice a difference in the snow. The first time down the hill was quite frightening for me because the snow was wet and seemed slick. By the third time down, I was feeling better. I've always wanted to be the mom who would get out and play with the family. Even though this pushes my limits, there is no place I would rather be than laughing and playing with the Mielke clan. We wanted to get a little video of Hayden on the snowboard, but he wouldn't slow down long enough to get any.

Our Christmas was really fun. We tried to keep things really simple this year and it was so sweet to see the children content and grateful with the things they received. They were more excited to give the gifts that they had bought for each other, than to receive gifts. Heath and I were so touched.

Hastings Project

Hello everyone,

Heather asked if I would share a few photos of the project that I am currently on.
The project is a coal fired power plant in Hastings Nebraska. Like many parts of the country it has been very cold this winter. Today we are in the negative digits and with the 25 mph wind, Hell can and will freeze over...
We are past the excavation portion of the work and have started the steel erection. On site we have about 250 Craft employees. Our man power will peak at about 650 craft early spring 2009

This is my first experience as the Site Safety Manager. It has been a very good experience for me. I have been able to develop and implement programs and put my own touch on the project.

Just a couple of points of interest

- Steel Erection - We will erect 7,000 tons of steel
- Concrete Placement - We have placed about 20,000 cubic yards of concrete
- Emission Chimney - 240 feet tall
- Unit Height - 160 feet high

Well that a little about the project...

I can't wait to get home to Heather & the kids. Our visits are short but we try and maximize our time together. Heather has been so supportive...She keeps the home front in tip-top shape and allows me to grow. She is an amazing wife and friend.
I hope you all may have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Heath

Merry Christmas To All!

Dear Family and Friends,

After a couple of years vacation from writing Christmas cards, I thought that maybe I would lay to rest the rumor that the Mielke Family was abducted by aliens and teaching Do-It-Yourself home projects to fellow humans living on other planets. This is false, as they are teaching us. Regardless, we are extremely busy in our ongoing remodel job and are very happy with the results as of yet.

Heath changed companies this year and now works for Black & Veatch, which is an engineering firm. He is currently working in Hastings, Nebraska as Safety Manager for the construction of a coal fired power plant. He makes the twelve hour trip home to Wisconsin every two weeks, usually on a Thursday night, only to return back to Hastings on Sunday afternoons. As difficult as this lifestyle is, our hearts are full of gratitude for this employment. We all live for the weekends that he is home, when we work hard on the house and PLAY hard with the kids.

I am forever working on the house and usually thoroughly enjoying it. This year we finish our kitchen, laundry room, kids bedrooms, and formal dining room. We are currently working on our entry, family room, and breakfast nook. Heath has installed new doors, crown moldings and new baseboard in all rooms. We are really enjoying the transformation. When I am not busy with the house, I enjoy trying to keep up with our five beautiful and ever growing children.

Nicholas is fourteen, tall, and handsome. He is attending his first year of early morning Seminary at our church, where they are studying the New Testament. He is always ready to go and never once has had to be prodded out of bed. He loves this class. When he has free time, he is either working on scouting, planning a paint ball activity with his friends, and here lately, he has been skiing at our local ski hill, Granite Peak. He just got his first job working for this ski hill.

Hayden is a hard working, self driven, young man. With mom driving Nick to Seminary in the morning and waiting the 45 minutes for his class to get out, Hayden is completely responsible for his morning routine. Never once has his mother had to run him to school because he missed the bus. Hayden, after years of skiing, decided to buy a snowboard this year. On his third time on the hill, you would have thought he had been snowboarding for years. Hayden also enjoys scouting, friends, and helping with the home improvement jobs.

Dylan is our happy, rule following child. He works hard in school and is already planning a career in medicine. He wanted to be a surgeon for Halloween and Heath talked him into telling the neighbors that he was a plastic surgeon. One of the neighbors even told him that she was in need of his services. He was very pleased with himself until mom informed him what the procedure was. So now he will still be a plastic surgeon, but he will specialize in eyelids.

Megan is nine going on nineteen. She loves Achievement Days, dancing, and singing. She is very nurturing and after the young women in our ward taught the Achievement Days Girls what was involved in babysitting, she was very disappointed that she has to wait three years until she can pass around a babysitting sign-up sheet to the moms in our ward. Megan, like all the kids, loves to ski, and looks forward to her time on the ski hill.

Seth keeps the Mielke Solar System spinning. He knows how to have a good time, how to make everyone laugh, and how to keep up with everyone else. He loves to ski, fish, swim, play in the forest, work hard and help in the kitchen when it involves something yummy.

We wish you all the happiness and joy this season has to offer. May you know that we count you among our richest blessings. As we reflect on the birth, life, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, may we all experience the peace, hope, and joy for the reality of these events.

Merry Christmas, The Mielke Family

Happy Birthday Heath!

As silly as this video is, we want to wish our most favorite man Happy Birthday. We love you so much Heath and hope that this video makes you smile.

Autumn Time

Although, the kids miss their dad very much, they are all doing very well. We have had to dig out the winter clothes because of the change of seasons. All five kids are wanting to get out the skis and give our local ski hill, Granite Peak, some attention. I am still holding out for a few more warm days.

This is a picture I took on Megan and Dylan's field trip. This is just ten minutes from the house at the top of our local ski hill, on Rib Mountain. There is nothing like Wisconsin Countryside in Autumn.

Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone!

I have never had any interest in blogging; However, with Heath in a different state with work, this will be a great way to let him see family video. I am really excited about the prospect of keeping up to date with family and friends a little better. My sister, Amber pointed out that this is a great way to journal for the family. So here goes!
